₹50,000 a month

The best credit cards on a ₹50,000 salary

A ₹50,000 salary clears most entry and mid-level cards. These seven are the ones worth a look, grouped by what they cost, with what each one pays and the catch the bank's terms put on it.

Before you choose

What none of them pay on

Fuel earns nothing on any of the seven. Rent earns nothing on six of them and only the base point on Tiger. Most also pay nothing on insurance, education and wallet loads, so check the exclusions before you put a big bill on a card.

₹0 fee

Lifetime free

No joining fee and no annual fee, so a card you barely use costs nothing to keep.

Small fee, waivable

Pays back its fee

A small yearly fee that a normal month of spending pays back. Each one waives it if you spend enough in the year.

HSBC Live+ Credit Card

Fee ₹999, waived at ₹2 lakh a year

HSBC Live+ Credit Card

10% back on dining, groceries, shopping and bills

  • Welcome offer: ₹1,000 cashback when you log in to the HSBC India app and spend ₹25,000 in the card's first 30 days, for applications made by 31 December 2026
  • 10% on dining and food delivery, groceries, shopping and utility bills, up to ₹1,200 back a statement cycle
  • 1.5% on most other spends
  • Income asked: ₹6 lakh a year, which a ₹50,000 monthly salary only just meets. Issued only in the cities HSBC serves

The catch

  • The 10% follows the shop's merchant code, not its name, so a shop billed under another code earns 1.5%
  • Fuel, rent, wallets, insurance, jewellery, tolls and education earn nothing

  • 1% offline, under its own ₹2,000 cap; the two together top out at ₹4,000
  • Cashback is posted automatically after each statement

The catch

  • Not an all-spends card: utilities, insurance, education, rent, fuel, wallet loads, railways, gift cards, tolls and government payments earn nothing
  • Usually left out of the bank discounts in Amazon and Flipkart sales
  • Not lifetime free: ₹999 + GST unless you spend ₹2 lakh in the year

Before you apply

Four things to get right

Start with one free card

A lifetime-free card builds your credit history at no cost. Add a fee card only when your monthly spend clearly pays back the fee.

Match the card to your biggest spend

Groceries and food point to HSBC Live+, Amazon to Amazon Pay ICICI, Flipkart and Myntra to Flipkart Axis, UPI at shops to Kiwi.

Pay the full bill every month

Interest on a carried balance is far more than any cashback. Set up autopay for the full amount.

Don't apply for several at once

Each application adds a hard enquiry to your credit report. Space them a few months apart.

Applied? DM me on Instagram “APPLIED + Card Name”. I'll send the fee waiver trick and how to activate lounge access.Open Instagram →
