When does the Flipkart Axis card stop paying 5%?
Flipkart Axis pays 5% on Flipkart up to ₹4,000 of cashback a statement quarter, reached at ₹80,000 of spend. How the quarter runs and what comes after.
The Flipkart Axis card stops paying 5% on Flipkart once it has paid ₹4,000 of Flipkart cashback in a statement quarter. At 5%, that ceiling fills at ₹80,000 of Flipkart spend. Anything else you spend on Flipkart in the same quarter earns nothing more until the next quarter starts.
Three capped rates, two uncapped ones
The card pays three merchant rates, and each has its own ceiling. Myntra earns 7.5%. Flipkart and Cleartrip earn 5% each. Each of the three carries a separate cap of ₹4,000 of cashback a statement quarter, so filling one leaves the others untouched. Under them sit two uncapped tiers: Axis’s preferred merchants earn 4%, and every other eligible spend earns 1%.
In spend terms the caps sit at different heights. ₹4,000 at 5% is ₹80,000 of Flipkart spend, and the same on Cleartrip. ₹4,000 at 7.5% is ₹53,333 on Myntra. Across the three merchants, the most the capped rates can pay in one statement quarter is ₹12,000.
On Flipkart alone, four quarters at the full cap come to ₹16,000 of cashback a year, on ₹3,20,000 of spend. That spend sits a little under the ₹3.5L a year that waives the card’s ₹500 renewal fee. Rent and wallet loads do not count toward that waiver.
The cashback lands as a statement credit. Axis’s terms say the cashback for one statement month is credited within three days before the next statement is generated. So a purchase made today shows its cashback one cycle later.
The quarter follows your statement date
The cap counts by statement quarter, which Axis’s revised terms define from your statement date rather than the calendar. With a statement on the 15th, the quarters run 16 March to 15 June, 16 June to 15 September, 16 September to 15 December, and 16 December to 15 March. A statement on another date moves all four boundaries with it.
A large order is where the cap shows up. Take a single Flipkart order of ₹1,20,000 as a worked example. At 5% it would earn ₹6,000. The cap pays ₹4,000, and the other ₹2,000 goes unpaid, so the return on that order comes to about 3.3%.
The same ₹1,20,000 as two orders of ₹60,000, posting in different statement quarters, earns ₹3,000 on each, ₹6,000 in total, because each quarter carries its own ₹4,000. Whether an order can be split, and on which day it posts, depends on the seller and the order. The card only looks at which quarter the transaction falls in.
The cap is a running total for the quarter. Smaller Flipkart orders spread over the three statement months of a quarter add up against the same ₹4,000, and the order that crosses it is paid only the part that fits.
What the fine print says about spend past the cap
The card’s published terms say the 5% is capped. They do not name a fallback rate for the spend above it. Axis answers that in the worked table inside its revised terms.
In that table, a cardholder spends ₹90,000 on Cleartrip in one month and receives ₹4,000, the full cap. The next month they spend ₹6,000 more on Cleartrip, and the cashback shown against it is ₹0. On Flipkart, the same cardholder has earned ₹3,000 in the quarter’s first two months. In the third month, ₹30,000 on Flipkart would be ₹1,500 at 5%, and the table pays ₹1,000, the room left under the cap.
Once a merchant’s cap is full, then, further spend on that merchant earns nothing for the rest of the quarter. Axis’s table shows no fallback to the 1% rate.
Refunds reverse the cashback: a returned order takes its cashback back off a later statement. The terms do not say whether a refund reopens room under the quarter’s cap, so a return and a re-order in the same quarter may not behave the way the arithmetic suggests.
Some categories earn nothing at all, capped or not. Fuel, rent, wallet loads, utilities, education and insurance earn no cashback, and Axis’s revised terms add gold and jewellery, government services, financial institutions, cash advances and repayments to the list. Axis identifies these by spend category, such as utility and telecom, rent or wallet load, rather than by merchant code.
Foreign-currency spends carry a 3.5% markup. That is a cost on the transaction, separate from any cashback it earns.
What you can check on your own statement
Your statement date comes first. It is printed on every statement, and it sets where each quarter starts and ends. Two orders a few days apart can sit in different quarters, or in the same one, depending on that date.
Next, the cashback credited against Flipkart since the quarter began. Add up the Flipkart lines across the quarter’s statements, remembering that each month’s cashback appears on the following statement. The gap between that total and ₹4,000 is the room left.
Then the Cleartrip and Myntra lines, separately. Each merchant keeps its own ₹4,000 count, so a full Flipkart cap says nothing about the other two.
A quick test on any month: divide the Flipkart cashback credited by the Flipkart spend it was earned on. At 5%, the cap was not reached that month. Below 5%, the cap filled partway through, and the rest of that quarter’s Flipkart spend earns nothing.
Krediit keeps this card’s record against your statement date, and each spend you log shows what it moved against the card’s cap.
