How much can an HDFC PIXEL card pay in a month?
Every accelerated tier on PIXEL Play and PIXEL Go stops at 500 CashPoints a month. What that is in spend, and where the 1% tier's larger ceiling sits.
Both PIXEL cards pay in CashPoints worth ₹1 each, and every accelerated tier on both stops at 500 CashPoints a month. That is the number to hold on to: whatever the rate on the tier, the tier pays at most ₹500 in a month. PIXEL Play has five ceilings running at once, PIXEL Go has two, and only Play’s 1% tier on ordinary spend has a large one, at 15,000 CashPoints a month.
Added up, Play cannot pay more than 17,000 CashPoints in a month, and almost all of that comes from the plain 1% rate rather than the headline ones.
What 500 CashPoints is in spend
The ceilings are set in points, so each rate reaches its ceiling at a different level of spend.
On Play’s 5% tier, which covers two packs you choose from five, 500 CashPoints arrives at ₹10,000 of spend in the month. The packs are dining and entertainment with BookMyShow and Zomato, travel with MakeMyTrip and Uber, grocery with Blinkit and Reliance Smart Bazaar, electronics with Croma and Reliance Digital, or fashion with Nykaa and Myntra. Two of the five are live at a time.
Play’s SmartBuy tier is a separate 5% with its own 500 ceiling, so it fills at another ₹10,000.
The 3% tier covers one chosen e-commerce partner, Amazon or Flipkart or PayZapp, and its 500 CashPoints arrive at about ₹16,667 of spend.
The 1% tier on UPI, which the RuPay variant carries, fills at ₹50,000. The 1% tier on everything else is the outlier: its ceiling is 15,000 CashPoints, which takes ₹15,00,000 of spend in a month to reach and so is a ceiling in name for most cardholders.
PIXEL Go is the same shape with fewer tiers
Go pays 5% on SmartBuy bookings, covering flights, hotels, bus, rail, gifting, instant vouchers and Apple Imagine Tresor, capped at the same 500 CashPoints a month. Its UPI tier is 1%, also capped at 500. Everything else earns the base 1 CashPoint per ₹100.
Go carries one cap the Play card does not: insurance earns 1%, and insurance CashPoints stop at 2,000 in a single day.
The fees differ. Play is ₹500 a year with the renewal waived at ₹1,00,000 of annual spend. Go is ₹250 with the waiver at ₹50,000. The income floors differ too, at ₹3,00,000 for Play and ₹1,44,000 for Go.
The fee is small, and so is the spend that covers it
Play’s ₹500 fee is covered by ₹50,000 of ordinary spend at the base 1%, and its renewal waiver needs ₹1,00,000 of annual spend. Go’s ₹250 fee is covered by half that, and its waiver needs ₹50,000.
Neither card needs an accelerated tier to pay for itself, which is worth knowing before choosing packs to chase. The packs are worth at most ₹500 a month each way, and the choice between them changes the outcome by less than the base rate does over a year of ordinary spend.
What earns nothing on either card
Fuel, wallet loads, rent, government payments, cash advances, card fees and payments toward the outstanding balance earn no CashPoints on either card. So does every kind of EMI, including a purchase converted to EMI after the fact, which is the one that surprises people: the transaction earned points when it posted and loses them when it converts.
Both cards waive the fuel surcharge at 1% on transactions between ₹400 and ₹5,000, capped at ₹250 a month, and both charge 3.5% on foreign currency.
Getting the points out
CashPoints on these cards redeem in PayZapp at ₹1 each, which is why the arithmetic above treats a CashPoint as a rupee. The balance has to reach 1,000 CashPoints before a redemption can be made, so a month spent entirely inside a single 500-point tier does not on its own produce a redeemable balance.
That threshold is worth knowing before choosing packs. Two packs that each earn a little produce the same rate as one that earns steadily, but the second reaches the redemption floor sooner.
What to check on your own statement
The tiers are small enough that they bind often, so check three things each cycle.
Check whether each 500-point tier ran out, and on what date. Spend in a chosen pack after the ceiling earns the base 1%, not 5%, and nothing on the app announces the switch.
Check that the packs and the e-commerce partner selected are the ones the spend actually goes to. Both are choices held on the card, and a pack chosen a year ago is still the one paying 5% today.
Check for EMI conversions against earlier statements. Converting a large purchase after the fact removes the CashPoints it earned.
Both records here are dated, with every ceiling, the pack lists and the exclusions as HDFC publishes them. Krediit holds them against your own spend, so the app shows which of the small ceilings is already full this month before the next purchase rather than after it.
