Does SBI's 27.5% Samsung offer work without EMI?

No. SBI Card’s Samsung offer, up to 27.5% off as an instant discount between 1 October and 30 November 2026, applies only when you convert the purchase to EMI at the till, and only on a tenure of six months or longer. Pay the full amount in one go and the discount does not appear. The Cashback SBI Card is outside the offer whichever way you pay.

How much of the 27.5% reaches you depends on the model, the machine at the till and the cost of the EMI.

How the discount is applied

The offer runs through payment aggregators. In stores it works only on card machines from Pine Labs, Benow and PPSL (Paytm), and only when the cashier picks the “Brand EMI” option on that machine. Online it works on stores whose checkout runs on Pine PG. A regular swipe on a different terminal, or an online order on a site that uses another payment gateway, falls outside the offer even on an eligible card.

The discount comes off the bill at the moment you pay. SBI’s terms say nothing is credited later, so if the charge slip does not show the discount, it will not arrive on your statement either.

The rate is “up to” 27.5%. SBI links a product list from the offer page, and the rate depends on the model. The headline figure applies to select products only, so check the list for the model you want before you count on the top rate.

The ceiling is ₹55,000 of discount per card. At the full 27.5%, a purchase would need to reach ₹2,00,000 before that cap mattered. Most single phones and appliances cost well under that, so for them the model’s rate, not the cap, sets the discount.

The EMI is not free

The terms say SBI’s interest rate, on a monthly reducing balance, and a processing fee apply to these Merchant EMI transactions, and they ask you to confirm both with the store staff, on the charge slip or on the payment page. The offer waives neither. The discount comes off the price once, while the interest and the fee are spread over six months or more. What you save is the discount minus that cost, and only the charge slip tells you the cost for your purchase.

The terms add that the discount sits on top of any interest subvention or cashback the manufacturer runs itself. Where Samsung runs a no-cost EMI on a model, the two can apply together. Where it does not, you pay the interest.

Which cards are left out

The offer covers SBI and Tata credit cards, with these exceptions in the terms:

  • SBI and Tata corporate cards
  • Paytm SBI co-brand cards
  • Cashback cards, which includes the Cashback SBI Card
  • UPI payments made with a RuPay credit card
  • The Flipkart SBI Card, for online purchases only

A card such as SimplyCLICK is eligible. A Cashback SBI Card is not, on any channel.

For a Cashback SBI Card holder, the EMI route has a second problem. The card’s record lists Merchant EMI and Flexipay EMI among the transactions that earn nothing, so converting the purchase earns no cashback either. Paid in full online, at a merchant outside its excluded codes, the same card earns 5%, capped at ₹2,000 of cashback a statement cycle.

Take a ₹1,00,000 purchase. If the model carries the top rate, an eligible SBI card on Brand EMI takes ₹27,500 off, before interest and the processing fee. On the Cashback SBI Card, paid in full online, 5% would come to ₹5,000, but the cap stops it at ₹2,000, which is 2% of the price. The two figures do not compare like for like. The first depends on the model’s rate and still has the EMI cost to come out of it. The second carries no EMI cost and arrives as a statement credit.

The limits that catch people out

The terms allow the offer once per card per category per aggregator per channel per month. Two Samsung purchases in the same category, through the same aggregator and on the same channel in one month get the discount once.

One bill gets either the brand’s offer or an electronics chain’s own SBI offer, not both. The terms use that exact example.

A full cancellation or return takes the purchase out of the offer. If you cancel part of an order, the discount is worked out on the net amount you paid.

SBI asks cardholders to keep the charge slip for 180 days after the programme ends. That slip is your proof of the discount, the tenure and the EMI terms if anything is disputed.

What to check on your own statement

The discount should not appear as a separate credit. Look for the purchase posted at the discounted price, then for the EMI booking that follows: the monthly instalment, the interest and the processing fee. If the statement shows the full price, the discount was not applied at the till, and the terms leave no later credit to wait for.

Check the tenure too. A three-month EMI does not qualify, even when the store offers it on an eligible machine.

If you hold the Cashback SBI Card and converted a purchase to EMI, check whether it earned anything. Under the card’s record, it should not have.

The Krediit app keeps each card’s earn rules and exclusions, including the Cashback SBI Card’s Merchant EMI exclusion, so you can see what a purchase earns on each card in your wallet before you pay.
