HDFC points to Qatar Avios, at 1:1

HDFC Infinia and Diners Club Black Metal points move to British Airways Avios at 2:1. Sent through Finnair Plus first, the same points arrive as Avios at 1:1, and Avios move between Finnair, British Airways and Qatar Airways for free. Mumbai → Doha, business costs 26,000 Avios. On Infinia, that is:

26,000points through Finnair PlusAt 1:1, then free to British Airways and Qatar
52,000points straight to British AirwaysAt 2:1

How it works

One currency, three airlines

Finnair, British Airways and Qatar Airways all use Avios, and Avios move between their programmes 1:1 and free once the accounts are linked. HDFC sends Finnair Plus 1 Avios per point on Infinia and Diners Club Black Metal, against 1 Avios per 2 points sent straight to British Airways. Finnair Plus cannot link to Qatar directly, so the route runs through British Airways.

HDFC's public documents say only "up to 1 airmile" per point and do not list partner-wise ratios, so these come from the card records in the Krediit app, matching what cardholders see on SmartBuy's Miles Transfer page and what Indian points blogs report (PointsMath, August 2026; FlightPoints, October 2026). Check the ratio on SmartBuy before you move points.

The Avios price is the lowest one-way award we last checked; Qatar prices change with demand and dates, so look up yours on Qatar's Avios calculator. Taxes and Qatar's carrier-imposed booking fee are paid in cash on top. Qatar Airways Avios calculator · checked 27 October 2026.

Open three free accounts

Linking needs accounts that are at least 30 days old, on both the Finnair and the British Airways side. Open all three today, even if the trip is months away: the waiting is the slow part, and the transfers themselves take minutes.

Use the same full name (as on your passport), email address and date of birth on all three accounts. Finnair and British Airways also ask for two-step login to be on before they link.

After 30 days

The route, step by step

Do these in order. The HDFC transfer is the only step that cannot be undone, so it comes after you have found a seat.

  1. Find the seat first

Look up the Avios price on Qatar's Avios calculator, then check that award seats are open on your dates. Qatar's award-flight finder needs you to sign in to Privilege Club.

Qatar adds taxes and a carrier-imposed booking fee in cash, which varies by route and cabin. Cash + Avios lets you pay part of a fare with as little as 1,000 Avios.

  2. Link Finnair Plus to The British Airways Club

Start from Balance and transactions in your Finnair Plus account, which takes you to avios.com to link the two. Both accounts need two-step login, and the name, email and date of birth must match.

You must be 18 or over and the Finnair Plus account at least 30 days old. Only British Airways customer service can unlink the accounts later.

  3. Link The British Airways Club to Qatar Privilege Club

Link online on avios.com, on qatarairways.com or in the Qatar app (Link your account). The British Airways account must be at least 30 days old, and the full name, email and date of birth must match.

Only one account on each side can be linked, and a Qatar account can never be linked to a different British Airways account later. If you change the email on the British Airways account, Avios cannot move for 7 days.

  4. Move HDFC points to Finnair Plus

On SmartBuy, open Miles Transfer and choose Finnair Plus. Or in NetBanking: Cards > Enquire > Redeem Reward Points > pick the card > Air Miles. The first time, register your Finnair Plus number under Frequent Flyer Registration, then redeem.

Infinia can move up to 1,50,000 points a calendar month, a limit shared with SmartBuy flight and hotel bookings. Once the points leave HDFC they cannot come back.

  5. Move the Avios from Finnair to British Airways

On avios.com, move them across 1:1. It is free, as often as you like, from 1 to 9,99,999 Avios at a time, and lands almost instantly.

On Finnair's basic tier you can move up to 10,00,000 Avios in 12 months, in both directions together. Don't leave Avios sitting in Finnair: their 18-month clock does not reset on a transfer.

  6. Book the Qatar seat

With the British Airways and Qatar accounts linked, you can pay for a Qatar award from either account's Avios without moving them first, online.

Or move them to Qatar Privilege Club: 1:1, free, with no minimum or maximum, credited straight away.

Five rules

One-way

Points that leave HDFC never come back. Find the seat before step 4.

Thirty days

Finnair and British Airways accounts must each be 30 days old before they link. Open all three today.

Same details everywhere

Full name as on your passport, email and date of birth must match across all three accounts.

Cash on top

Award seats carry taxes and Qatar's carrier-imposed booking fee, paid in cash.

Watch Finnair's clock

Finnair Avios expire after 18 months without activity, and transfers don't count. Move them on to British Airways the same day.
